Housing Support Worker-Lilly Program (Part Time Position Until March 31st, 2018)

Choices for Youth is a dynamic, progressive organization that empowers homeless and at-risk youth with innovative options and tools to move from street-life to more stable, healthy living situations. Currently, The Lilly is looking for a part time Housing Support Worker (approximately 40 hours bi-weekly). The Lilly is a non-traditional safe and affordable housing program with in-house supports for homeless and at risk youth. Youth who live at the Lilly develop and engage in an individual support plan, employment and/or educational training and programming.

Position Summary: The Housing Support Mentors will work with the Lilly Team to support our youth identify their goals and work towards achieving them. The Housing Support Mentors will also assist with administrative duties, daily shift expectations, support youth in their support plans, and assist with programming as required to better meet the needs of our youth. All Choices for Youth Team members support the organization’s mission statement, and reflect the values of the mission statement in their work with youth. All Frontline Housing Support Workers are committed to a supportive approach and constructive communication that respects diversity and dignity. This position is rotational and includes evening, weekend and overnight shifts. The contract will be up to a maximum of 40 hours bi-weekly. The schedule will be re-evaluated after three months to ensure youth and program needs are being met.

Qualifications and Experience :

  • Post-Secondary education in social work or related field required
  • Experience working with homeless and at risk youth
  • A sound knowledge of the issues facing homeless and marginalized youth
  • Experience in supportive counselling
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
  • Strong documentation and administrative skills
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution and de-escalation skills
  • First Aid and CPR and ASSIST
  • Valid Driver’s License and use of a vehicle

The following Skills are considered an asset:

  • Knowledge or experience with substance misuse and mental health
  • Life skills and Employment counselling
  • Knowledge of community services and programs
  • Knowledge in DBT

Salary: Based on scale TG-25 Step 1: $42,615.04
