Under the direction of the Food Services Manager, the Dining Attendant is responsible for the service of meals to the residents, the cleanliness of the dietary areas and equipment in accordance with specific standards and regulations, and assigned duties related to food service.

BACKGROUND / QUALIFICATIONS:

• The incumbent must be a High School Graduate who has had some formal training in or prior proven experience in working professionally with senior clientele. Ability to maintain effective oral and written communications (in English) and have a positive self-projection, nurturing excellent human relations with residents, families and other team members.
• Knowledge of WHMIS, Food Safe required.
• Previous experience in food service in a hospitality setting is preferred.
• Ability to work with minimum supervision and be able to demonstrate initiative and problem solving skills
• A person with positive self-projection and ability to use initiative in problem solving.
• A people-person with a heart for seniors and a positive, outgoing disposition. Ability to work independently as well as taking direction, a team player; flexible and versatile.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Prepares and Serves meals/beverages in the dining rooms to residents and guests ensuring that table and tray presentation meets the Dr. Hemstock Standards.
• Sets tables and clears the dining rooms of dishes, utensils etc.
• Cleans tables. Serving counters, trays, menus, dining rooms after meal service.
• Prepares and washes dishes and cutlery.
• Handles all matter in a confidential manner.
• Studies Resident Handbook and Rental Agreement to familiarize the services we offer and those that may be billable. Maintains adequate records of duties and services performed.
• Responsible for cleanliness and sanitation of all food service areas.
• Follows department policies, procedures and objectives regarding quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control.
• Ensures effective team communication within the residence, logs any concerns re resident behavior in Communication Book.
• Demonstrates outstanding public relations skills with residents, potential clients, staff and all persons visiting the Dr. Hemstock.
• Is a team player, cooperates with colleagues and other departments to meet residents’ needs.
• Is familiar with Dining Room and Activity functions and be available to escort, host or serve.
• Responds quickly to resident calls, giving assistance where appropriate.
• Shares responsibility, through in-service and education, in safety standards of the residence.
• Maintains strict confidentiality of information.
• Accepts and signs for deliveries if required, and ascertains accurate paperwork flow.
• Performs duties willingly in a timely and friendly manner.

The schedule would be part time evenings as well as every other weekend from 6:00 am - 2:00 pm
