Independent Petroleum agents and more than 1,200 employees provide products, services and agricultural solutions to farmers, ranchers, members, consumers and commercial customers in Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan.

UFA also owns and operates an outdoor outfitter business called Wholesale Sports. With 12 locations and more than 600 employees, Wholesale Sports is the largest multi-channel retailer in Western Canada dedicated to the outdoor industry.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Manager, Forecast & Replenishment, the Buyer is accountable for the sourcing and evaluation of procurement options within an assigned category (commodity type articles), manage supplier relationships, spend visibility, replenishment management, process compliance and transactional accuracy.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Source inventory in assigned product categories, taking into consideration of product availability, quality, unit cost, and order quantity (inventory impact and exit strategy). Continually evaluate procurement options to achieve improved inventory performance and meet assigned market plans for in store inventory position performance: right product, right place, right time in the correct quantity to maximize customer satisfaction and sales performance.

Collaborate with the Merchant and external vendor resources to achieve optimal inventory levels and analyze vendor performance. Build and execute procurement booking order strategies in conjunction with category planners and source product to meet market-plan forecasted demand.

Visit farm stores to understand store product issues, performance and customer acceptance. Integrate field visit knowledge with vendor visits and tradeshow attendance to develop specific market plans. Develop/execute inventory rebalancing initiatives within area of responsibility. Partner with business partners to assess vendor performance.

Responsible for SAP replenishment management (optimize articles, manage overdue elements/red lights, vendor performance). Develop and maintain Layout modules within SAP, according to the assortment planning strategy provided by Product Strategy Manager/Category Planner. Maintain supplier costs in SAP. Process compliance and transactional accuracy (PO creation, PO changes and supplier invoicing discrepancies).

Negotiate vendor buying agreements, tendering and negotiating lumber pricing with lumber brokers, on ongoing bases.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
A Bachelor’s degree or diploma, preferably in agriculture, business or related field is required. Completion of procurement or supply chain management courses or working towards a professional purchasing designation (PMAC, CPP, SCMP) is an asset.

Minimum 8 years’ experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Agricultural and commodity purchasing background is an asset.

Working knowledge of SAP.

Proficiency in MS Office and knowledge of materials management software/databases.

Effective interpersonal, negotiation, facilitation and communication (both written and verbal) skills.

Ability to deal with competing priorities and manage time appropriately.

Self-starter and the ability to work both in a team environment and independently.
