IT MindFinders is conducting a search for an Application Support Specialist on behalf of a client located in Burnaby, BC. Reporting to the Manager, Service Delivery, the Application Support Specialist provides services in support of our client's enterprise applications, including monitoring performance and investigating and resolving complex software and/or hardware technical problems; coordinating changes to applications, configuring equipment and conducting testing; providing recommendations on the development of system capabilities to meet user needs; and performing routing system administration tasks.

Responsibilities:
Maintains enterprise applications; monitors performance; interprets and responds to status and alarm indicators; investigates, troubleshoots, assesses and resolves complex software and/or hardware technical problems.

Receives and records software and/or hardware problems reported by users; triages reported issues; updates support documentation and records resolutions.

Provides input and recommendations regarding the development, alteration or refinement of system capabilities to better meet user needs; coordinates the implementation of technical enhancements.

Peforms routing systems administration tasks such as adding and deleting users, assigning security rights and providing systems access.

Coordinates application changes such as patches, configuration, additional modules and maintenance, tests for proper functionality and acceptability.

Configures and tests equipment such as mobile devices to enable proper functionality.

Assists in preparing procedures, guidelines and training material; provides training and resources to staff.

Qualifications:
Completion of a diploma program in computer science or a related discipline, preferably ITIL or similar service delivery certification, plus some related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Solid experience troubleshooting complex applications that interact with other applications.

Strong familiarity with SQL databases.

Scripting experience or basic object oriented programming knowledge.

Proven natural problem solver with an inquisitive nature to see application issues through to fruition.

Basic knowedlge of Linux and XML.

Knowledge of the rules, regulations, policies and procedures governing the work.

Knowledge of enterprise system applicaitons, methods, practices and procedures related to system operation and administration, as related to the work performed.

Knowledge of problem definition and solution techniques.

Knowedlge of computer and communications technology as it relates to the work performed.

Ability to investigate and resolve a wide variety of software problems and to provide assistance to end users.

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Ability to prepare and maintain a variety of records, reports and other documentation related to the work.

Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
