Responsibilities and Duties

The successful candidate must possess an extensive knowledge of accounting practices and procedures, as well as strong computer, communication, and organizational skills.

As the Director of Finance, you will be responsible for (but not limited to):

  • Control City Funds, Investments, Collections and disbursements as well as Cash forecasting, financial projects and long range capital planning
  • Lead the preparation of Annual Financial Statements for all City business / funds and the public accounts document
  • Coordinate preparation and compile annual budget estimates in conjunction with Department Heads and City Manager
  • Attend Council meetings to provide information regarding issues that have financial considerations
  • Present Operating and Capital budgets to Council along with necessary background information including financial analysis on various components
  • Lead the development, maintenance and implementation of a corporate IT plan
  • Identify and assign resources to deliver departmental business plans
  • Provide information to the public concerning all areas of finance and ensure staff are up to date on pertinent issues

Qualifications and Skills

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a finance managerial position
  • CPA designation or significant related experience & proficiency
  • Knowledge and ability to interpret legislation, agreements/leases and processes
  • Knowledge of accounting and principals governing the public sector
  • Possess and maintain RCMP security clearance
  • Excellent interdepartmental relation
