What is the opportunity?
An exciting opportunity within the Personal & Commercial Banking Finance team to manage, lead and supervise Financial Control responsibilities in the P&CB platform, specifically for the Canadian Bank held liabilities (approximately $380Bn), with the objective of delivering timely, accurate and reliable financial information.

What will you do?
Overall responsibility of accurate and complete financial information for Canadian Banking’s Liabilities – including deposits, deferred income and other liabilities.
Provide meaningful analysis of the financial results and responsible for submission of disclosure information for MD&A, Notes & Supplemental Disclosures.
Lead and develop a team of finance professionals, ensure proper coaching and development
Implement and maintain the monthly review program to ensure financial controls are in place and the appropriate reconciliations are completed. Ensure that the Enterprise GL attestation policies and Standards of Documentation procedures are adhered to by all stakeholders, including Financial Shared Services, Operations and Statutory & Regulatory Reporting to ensure consistency and adequacy of reconciliations.
Provide sign-offs to VP & Controller, P&CB Finance on G/L integrity, escalating issues as required and actively provide alternatives for resolution.
Centre of expertise for all Financial and Regulatory reporting matters in relevant business areas. Maintain technical knowledge and keep abreast of all new accounting developments, SOX related inquiries and SOX walkthroughs for internal and external audit. Ensure SOX and RBC EUC documentation compliance and completeness including new controls/ process.
Responsible for the Canadian Banking Finance SOX maps and the maintenance of the control inventory for the liabilities related KCIs.
Responsible for and support the operational execution and implementation of new accounting standards such as IFRS 15. Assess related financial reporting impact, coordinate and execute implementation plan.
Monitoring of intergroup activity and ensures I/G accounts are reconciled.
Responsible to ensure new products and new transactions are appropriately captured in RBC Financial Reporting Systems, including the appropriate use of GLs and Financial Statement reporting lines.
Responsible for the Financial Control Canadian Banking Risk Assessment (CBRA) process for liability related accounts for new products and product shelf reviews.
Lead the review of new Digital projects to ensure that financial controls are in place and that appropriate reconciliations are completed. Ensure that controls and governance are in place for new digital initiatives and that impact to downstream financial reporting is determined.
Lead and implement projects as directed by the VP & Controller, P&CB Finance; Provide overall assurance on financial reporting and accuracy for the liabilities portfolio.

What do you need to succeed?
Must Have
CA Designation with 10 -12 years of relevant experience
5 yrs of senior financial/management reporting experience
Knowledge of retail banking products, familiar with accounting for deposits, deferred revenue and liabilities related accounting together with a willingness and interest in developing that knowledge.
Ability to work independently and manage numerous priorities simultaneously
Ability to synthesize issues and recommend solutions.
Ability to balance big picture thinking and review detail tasks.
Excellent analytical, communication and presentation skills combined with stake holder/relationship management
Strong leadership and people management skills
