Reporting to the Manager of Common Operations, the Project Tools & Systems (PTS) Manager is responsible for the successful deployment and use of the electronic tools needed for project delivery in the Vancouver office of Wood. The Vancouver office services multiple industries and business lines, including Transmission & Distribution, Mining, Forest Industry, Power and Infrastructure. The PTS Manager must, in alignment with broader corporate mandates and personnel, provide the ability to cost-effectively deploy tools for all phases of projects across these industries for projects with capital values ranging from very small (<$100,000) to excess of $1B. The project teams are often globally distributed and the PTS Manager must ensure the effectiveness of the tools for the entire team.

The PTS Manager is responsible for all project delivery tools: engineering (all disciplines), supply chain, project controls, document control and administration for the office and field both during design and construction. Tools include a variety of 2D and 3D drawing and design software (e.g. Autocad, Microstation, PDMS, SmartPlant, etc.), collaboration systems (e.g. SharePoint, ProjectWise, Brava), in-house tools (e.g. Convero for integrated project management, cost and document control and material management) as well as more specialized software. Working with internal and external subject matter experts, the PTS Manager is integrating the tools to maximize overall project delivery efficiency and effectiveness while incorporating customer-driven requirements as applicable. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Working with each industry line, select and deploy the appropriate tools for each project and then monitor and support these tools for the life of each project
  • Provide input to proposals and act as interface to customers for PTS matters
  • Ensure that the needed processes and procedures are in place and documented to effectively deploy the tools including considerations for testing, logistics (hardware, licensing, etc.), training and support
  • Hiring, training, supervision and performance management of applicable PTS staff
  • Working with global corporate personnel to improve existing PTS tools and map the pathway for upgrading and replacing these tools
  • Budget development and on-going management to the approved budget of the PTS group
Skills / Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree from a recognized university in engineering, IT or relevant business program. A relevant post-secondary diploma with extensive relevant experience would also be considered
  • A minimum of 10 years of applicable and progressive work experience
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in corporate environments
  • Demonstrated experience working in multi-disciplinary, multi-office project environments preferably in heavy industry
  • Technical expertise in at least two significant project delivery tools
  • Excellent verbal and written communication as well as listening skills
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate complex subjects to non-technical personnel
  • A solid understanding of IT infrastructure and IT security considerations
  • EPCM and EPC experience is a definite asset
